Ordinary knobs are almost always installed on the same pattern. In the shops of building tools special kits are sold for embedding handles in the interior doors. The set consists of a perforated drill with a diameter of 23 mm. and crowns on wood, with a diameter of 50-54 mm.

So, mark a distance of 95 cm at the end of the door leaf. Using a square, draw a clear line perpendicular to the end of the leaf. Mark the middle of it and nack. You can screw with any sharp object, awl, nail or screw. Drill a hole for the latch in this place. But take your time, it's not time yet!

You must continue the markup for the pen , or speaking professionally, for the knob . To do this, you must continue the line on the end further on the canvas itself on both sides. This should be done strictly perpendicular to the door leaf, using a square. It will be useful to remind you that the pencil should be sharply sharpened.

Here you should pay attention to one detail. The handle can be positioned at a distance of 60 or 70 mm. from the edge. An adjustable latch length design allows this. Decide which distance suits you best and mark the one you want on both sides of the canvas on the lines you have previously drawn.

There is no need for a pattern. After all, the canvas is absolutely flat and smooth. But there is a limit to the location of the handle. The distance of 70 mm. It doesn’t overlap the decorative elements. Otherwise, mark 60 mm. from the edge.

Drilling holes for the handle

The first hole is drilled for the handle , then for the latch . It is more comfortable. First, when you begin to drill the end, you will know exactly when to stop, and secondly, all the chips when drilling the end face just fall down and you will not need to sweep or blow it out with a vacuum cleaner, which is very inconvenient.

So, take a drill, fasten a crown on the wood (50-54 mm.) Into the chuck and start drilling from one of the sides, having previously threaded the marked point. Do not try to drill all the canvas "in one breath." Firstly, you do not have enough depth of the crown itself, and secondly, the crown's teeth will be clogged with sawdust, the crown will warm up strongly and burn the tree, and the deeper, the stronger. Only we did not have enough fire!

Having drilled 4-6 mm., Without turning off the drill, pull it towards you, removing the crown from the drilled hole. There is no need to include a reverse and generally make sudden movements. Everything should happen smoothly, but confidently.

Clean crown teeth from sawdust. Be careful, it can be very hot! It all depends on the material of the door leaf and its degree of humidity. The denser the material and wetter, the more heated the crown. But the crown with the blunt, ground teeth is heated most of all. Never use this! Buy a new one, my advice to you.

Having cleaned the teeth of the crown, and, if necessary, letting it cool, immerse it where it was from, took it some time ago, and continue this important mechanical operation to obtain the hole we need so much. As I already mentioned, the crown, by virtue of its limited depth, will not allow passing through the web. Drilled to half, you should go to the other side and repeat the whole operation again. Here you need to be careful. Approaching the middle of the canvas, do not push hard, let yourself enjoy the last seconds of this exciting process! Otherwise, you risk running through the crown through and hitting the door leaf with a drill. But we do not want to scratch it or leave a dent, right?

Drill a hole for the latch

Go to the next step. We take out the crown from the drill chuck, not forgetting about its increased temperature. We clamp in a cartridge feather drill with a diameter of 23 mm. Pay attention to the photo. It shows that the size of 25 mm is stamped on the drill. But be calm, no cheating! Simply, I did not have a drill of the required diameter, and I used a “perk” of 25 mm., Having previously grinded its edge to the required diameter. Such a little trick, take note.

Drilling must be strictly perpendicular to the end of the door leaf. At first it seemed to me that it was very difficult to control. I mean perpendicularity. But then I realized that it was easy to do, just by watching how smooth the drill chooses the circle. This is especially noticeable at the beginning of drilling, and a little going deep, you can almost not worry that the drill will deviate from the specified course. But this does not mean at all that you can relax and look not at the drill, but at the cat sprinkled with sawdust passing by.

Installing the latch for interior doors

Well, so what! The drilling of the holes is completed, now you need to ditch the latch bar in the end of the door leaf, so that it is “flush” with the plane. Professionals do this with a manual milling machine, but not everyone will have one, so you have to work with a hammer and a chisel.

Insert the latch into the hole and circle it with a sharply sharpened pencil. In order to keep the plank in place during the stroke, I usually immediately drill the holes for the fastening screws and lightly tighten them, fixing the plank. By circling the bar, remove the latch and hold the chisel. Do I have to say that the chisel should be not just sharp, but very sharp ?!

Installing a lock in the interior door will increase the comfort of living. This is very convenient, as it allows you to restrict the access of a small child to those rooms where he can prevent adults or get injured. When both recesses are ready, the screws and the recess on the jamb are fixed to the screws, which are usually included in the kit.

Installation pens

The further process does not cause any difficulties. The first in its place is put a handle with screws. The screws are unscrewed, and the handle is inserted into the lock. To do this, the handle has a special square rod, which passes through the corresponding hole in the lock. After that, the second handle is put on this rod on the other side and fixed with screws. Then put on the trim and the pens themselves. At this installation process is complete.

After that, it remains only to remove garbage and tools.

Even if you are confident in your abilities and are able to drill, it is better to work with a coronary drill from two sides. This will provide a neat cut and there will be no chipping and scuffing on the surface of the door, which will spoil its appearance.

It is better to drill the lock slot in the end of the door after the hole for the handles has been drilled. So you will be sure that the hole is fully connected to the main one. Otherwise, you may need to drill a channel for the lock.

When choosing a recess for the lock plate, work must begin with a contour. The entire contour is outlined with gentle blows, and only after that the wood is selected. This will not allow chipping and cracking.

Do not overtighten the screws on the handles. The fixing should be tight, but not excessive. Otherwise, dents may appear on the surface of the door, spoiling its appearance.
